Pakistan and Russia have reiterated their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including energy, trade, connectivity, technology, education, and regional security, as both countries seek to strengthen engagement amid evolving global geopolitical dynamics.

The renewed focus on bilateral relations was highlighted during a high-level webinar titled “Pakistan–Russia Bilateral Relations at the Cusp of a Shifting Global Order,” jointly organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the University of World Civilizations, Moscow.

Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari described Pakistan-Russia relations as a steadily growing partnership that has witnessed significant progress over the past two decades. He noted that increasing high-level exchanges and the work of the Pakistan–Russia Intergovernmental Commission have helped broaden cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.

The minister emphasized that both countries are well-positioned to contribute to regional stability, economic integration, and a more balanced international order. He also welcomed discussions regarding Pakistan’s participation in the International North-South Transport Corridor and its potential linkage with Gwadar Port, highlighting the importance of the long-term economic cooperation framework extending to 2030.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, termed the current global environment a defining phase in international politics and underscored the growing significance of Russia in shaping emerging geopolitical and economic trends. He expressed optimism that enhanced connectivity projects, economic collaboration, and political engagement would further strengthen bilateral ties.

During the discussions, senior policymakers, diplomats, academics, and strategic experts from both countries highlighted growing cooperation in energy, trade, transport connectivity, security, counterterrorism, and regional integration.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi stated that Pakistan-Russia relations are currently at their strongest level, supported by increasing convergence on regional and global issues. He noted that ongoing global transformations present new opportunities for both countries to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

Former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Masood Khan, emphasized the importance of strengthening economic engagement and regional connectivity involving Pakistan, Russia, China, and Central Asian states, particularly in the context of an increasingly multipolar world.

Russian experts participating in the webinar also highlighted Pakistan’s strategic importance in Eurasian trade and regional connectivity initiatives, while stressing the growing momentum in economic cooperation, transport corridors, energy collaboration, educational exchanges, and institutional partnerships.

The webinar concluded with a consensus that stronger political coordination, economic engagement, and people-to-people exchanges could unlock new opportunities for Pakistan-Russia relations while supporting regional stability and broader economic integration.
